The Wedding of Q & U is celebrated at
Longfellow Elementary School
On January 11, 2008, the long awaited
ceremony of the letters Q & U took place in the all-purpose room. Kindergarten classes of Mrs. Mariani and
Miss Vesper formed a union between the letters Q & U. The letter nuptials are a way for the
students to make the permanent association between the two letters. The main
purpose of this playful wedding is to explain that “U” doesn’t need “Q”. but “Q”
always needs “U”. They need each other.
The boys were dressed in quarterback attire, and the girls wore their
prettiest dresses to represent the queens for the day. The Queen Bride, was a student from Mrs.
Mariani’s class Nicole Montes and the
Quarterback was from Miss Vesper’s class, Quincy Beaton. The ceremony began with wedding music
supplied by Ms. Amanda Wade, Music teacher for Pennsauken School District. The children walked down the isle as the
quarter girl threw quarters on the floor.
Mr. Jim Soukoup, computer teacher for Longfellow school, officiated the
ceremony. No one objected to the union and the Letters Q & U were united.
A reception was held in the all-purpose
room for the Kindergarten classes. The students from both classes recited
several poems relating to the union of Q & U. A beautiful wedding cake was
donated by Gallo’s Bakery, of Mt. Laurel.
The students danced to the music of The Tooty Ta, The Partner Dance, and
The Hokey Pokey, before Q & U rode off on decorated scooters with quart
bottles attached.
