Field Day 2009!

Fine School didn't let the rain ruin Field Day 2009 on June 4th! Students enjoyed indoor activities arranged by the physical education teachers Mr. Deitch and Mr. Lodge. PTA provided the afternoon program where students were delighted by an exciting laser show. Hooray for a fun filled day!

George B. Fine Elementary School's mission is to provide the best learning environment for its students. We must meet the individual academic needs of each student and at the same time, provide emotional and moral support so that they can mature educationally and developmentally.

The Fine School staff and students are enjoying their spacious surroundings. Adequate classroom space and dedicated rooms for specials, such as art, computer, vocal and instrumental music and physical education makes scheduling more manageable. The facility has office space for an in-house Child Study Team and other supportive staff, which includes Occupational Therapy, Guidance, Speech, Physical Therapy and Adaptive Physical Education. The Nurse's Office has ample space for patients and medical supplies. The All-Purpose Room is equipped with a regulation basketball backboard and rim, and an elevated stage with programmable lighting. The Media Center contains a story well and enough shelving to house thousands of books. Pre-K and all day Kindergarten and their curriculum give momentum to a great academic building block.

The following programs represent our efforts to provide an educationally sound program for all of Fine's children:

CURRICULUM OFFERINGS:
-Basic Skills as the core (reading, language arts, mathematics,
science and social studies)
-Art
-Health and physical education
-Music
-Computers

SPECIAL ACTIVITIES:
The week before Thanksgiving, the staff and the PTA provide a turkey dinner for the students with all of the trimmings. A great opportunity for the "Fine Family" to have a family dinner.

Each month, students are selected from each classroom to represent Good Behavior Students. The PTA provides a special lunch with the principal for those students.

Each year, Fine celebrates "Family Fun Day" which is held on a Saturday so that the students and their families can participate in various fun filled activities sponsored by the PTA.

"Friday Morning Meeting" - Each month the students, faculty members and parents meet to celebrate the achievements of the students and faculty members. This meeting also focuses on character traits and activities that promote positive attitudes.

"Balloon Releasing Ceremony" - The students and faculty members create goals for the school year. The goals are placed inside of a balloon and released outside on the playground. Parents and community members are invited to this ceremony.

Principal's Honor Roll, Honor Roll, Citizenship Award, Most Improved Award and Perfect Attendance - Children are recognized for academic achievement, citizenship and/or perfect attendance at the end of each marking period.
