Franklin's Teacher Websites (a new window will open)

Benjamin Franklin continues to be the largest elementary school in the Pennsauken School District. It serves the community with educational programs for grades kindergarten through four. This includes three special education self-contained classes, and two resource centers that service classified students housed in a mainstreamed setting. Franklin is also the home of the district's Bridge Program. This program offers students not ready for first grade another year to mature before going to first grade.

Franklin School continuously benefits from an active and involved PTA. Members of the PTA volunteer to work in the school library, classroom, office and wherever needed. They promote and sponsor many activities throughout the year. Through fundraising efforts, the PTA financially sponsors activities as well as assembly programs for the children. Planning meetings with the principal are held monthly at the school and all members are invited to attend. Franklin needs and welcomes volunteers.

Each month, student's birthdays are celebrated with the principal. An invitation is sent to each student and a lunch is held with the principal. The students of Franklin School also participate in the Student Council. They are elected and participate in facilitating several school and community service projects. Faculty members are advisors for this student-based activity.

Franklin School's commitment to the community through service has intensified through the adoption of the Ronald McDonald House (a home away from home for families of patients in Cooper Hospital in Camden) and the Cooper River Nursing Home in Pennsauken. In an attempt to make Franklin available to the students as a resource for growth, a Saturday program has been established. Students from the National Honor Society at Pennsauken High School function as tutors for participating Franklin children.

The Artist in Residency Program has provided Franklin students with a positive cultural and artistic experience. The Perkins Center for the Arts provides a professional artist to work with our fourth grade students. The students will focus on Muhammad Ali and Yao Mingh. Professional athletes who had and have a profound global impact on society.

In November, there is a "Fun Night" for the fourth graders and their parents. Throughout the evening, the students participate in four activities dealing with teamwork, sportsmanship, cooperation and trust. These are skills necessary to promote good character. Each year we sponsor "A Week Without TV" where we ask our Franklin families to enjoy a variety of activities that do not include watching television. Every evening during the week, we provide an event at school that involves our families.
