The Pennsauken Intermediate School is in its fifth year of existance. It is a beautiful spacious building, which is home to approximately 850 fifth and sixth grade students. It provides a quality education in a safe and orderly environment.

The purpose of the Intermediate School is to provide a smooth transition from the Elementary School experience to the Middle School years. The Intermediate School provides a strong academic program in a structured atmosphere. There are nine forty-two minute periods in each school day. Each student has a double period of mathematics and language arts each day, and a double period of science and social studies on alternating days. Students have one teacher for language arts and social studies, and one teacher for mathematics and science. These teachers are partners, and they have their classrooms right next door to each other. Students also enjoy one period of physical education/health, a related arts program and lunch everyday. The related arts programs consist of art, computers, music, Spanish and study skills in fifth grade and art, computers, music, Spanish and world cultures in sixth grade. They attend their related arts class for seven and a half week sessions. Chorus, band and strings are also available for students' participation.

Students at the Intermediate School began to implement a uniform policy in September. It met with tremendous success. Students wear a light blue shirt/blouse with tan or navy skirts or slacks. There is 100% cooperation among students.

The Intermediate School also boasts of nine laptop computer carts; each cart contains twenty-four state of the art computers and a printer. These carts can be rolled into the classrooms and utilized to support the instructional program in all subject areas. All students take the NJ ASK (New Jersey Assessment of Skills and Knowledge Test) in the late spring. Any student who falls below the state's standards in mathematics or language arts receives additional class support from Basic Skills teachers in these areas.

Students also receive a full range of co-curricular activities. These activities include student council, newspaper and a memory book. Sixth grade students may participate in sports activities on the adjoining campus. Sixth, seventh and eighth grade interscholstic teams are maintained for boys and girls in basketball, field hockey, softball, baseball and soccer. Students may also participate in track, wrestling and cheerleading. The intramural program offers field hockey, floor hockey, soccer, volleyball, basketball, and softball for boys and girls. Students may also attend a Holiday and Spring Social. A disc jockey provides the latest in popular music for their entertainment. Two skating parties are held each year for students and their families. Both of these activities are well attended. Two chorus and instrumental concerts are also held each year. Parents are encouraged to attend Back-To-School Night, parent-teacher conferences, the Winter and Spring Band and Chorus Concerts, and scheduled PTA meetings. The PTA is very active and supportive of all the Intermediate School's endeavors.

The Pennsauken Intermediate School provides an excellent environment for students to develop and mature intellectually, socially, and emotionally under the nurturing influence of a dedicated and knowledgeable faculty and staff.
