Theodore Roosevelt Elementary School consists of a multi-cultural student body of 222 students and a staff of 28, which includes a combination of certified and supportive personnel. Along with these cultural differences, our students come to us with an array of learning differences.

Our school's mission is to empower students to achieve their greatest potential by addressing the needs of the whole child. We believe that all children can learn and that they learn best when high expectations are established. We instill a positive self-image and give students the tools they need to become productive citizens who will contribute positively to society. In order to fulfill this mission, we are dedicated to meeting the individual social, emotional, and academic needs of all students. We provide our students with the opportunity to love learning and to become life long learners by meeting their individual needs. As a collaborative team, we have been able to create a nurturing educational environment that is conducive to learning where students are willing to take risks. Our school emphasizes the writing process and we view it as a vehicle of self-expressions and introspection.

Roosevelt Elementary School has been honored in 2003 and 2004 by a new statewide initiative that evaluates student achievement based on the percentage of economically disadvantaged and limited English proficiency students. The 'Just for Kids' program, which is administered by the New Jersey Chamber of Commerce, has identified Roosevelt School as a "Benchmark School" that has effectively improved student performance. In particular, the students of Roosevelt School showed significant improvement in fourth-grade test scores.

SPECIAL ACTIVITIES:

TEDDY BEAR DAY - Each year the school celebrates Theodore Roosevelt's birthday on Teddy Bear Day. Various academic and fun activities are coordinated between the staff and PTA.

STUDENT of the MONTH - positive reinforcement activity for all children in kindergarten through fourth grade. Each teacher chooses one student per month to receive this distinction. The children's pictures are displayed, certificates are given, and the PTA provides pizza for their luncheon with the principal.

BIRTHDAY RECOGNITION - Students are given a birthday pencil and a birthday acknowledgement from the principal.

HONOR ROLL and PERFECT ATTENDANCE - Children are recognized for academic achievement and/or perfect attendance at the end of each marking period.

Parents have a close working relationship with the school staff. The PTA is extremely active and provides many services for the children. Some of the activities provided for the children throughout the year are: book fairs, assemblies, Staff Appreciation Luncheon, pizza parties, skating parties, and field day.

Parental involvement is an integral part of the Roosevelt School. Parents are welcome to visit the school at all times. We welcome their input into our school.
