Pennsauken Red Going Green - An Update
Since being selected in January of this year, Schneider Electric has been extremely active throughout our district conducting the initial Phase of the Investment Grade Energy Audit (IGEA).
At the March 17, 2016 Board of Education Work Session meeting, Schneider Electric reviewed the positive findings of Phase I of the IGEA and recommended the Board approve moving forward into the final phase of the IGEA. The Board of Education approved moving forward into the final phase of the IGEA at its March 24, 2016 business meeting.
Schneider Electric is currently conducting the final stage of the IGEA and anticipates presenting final results and recommending a final ESIP project to the Board of Education in June 2016.
Please take a moment to view Schneider Electric’s PowerPoint presentation highlighting their positive progress and opportunities for the Pennsauken Public Schools to achieve sustainability through significant energy efficiencies and savings.
Pennsauken Red Going Green
The Pennsauken Board of Education and administration have been actively working on a comprehensive energy sustainability and renewable GREEN initiative over the past year. It began with the district embarking on a Local Government Energy Audit (LGEA) provided at No Cost to the district through the New Jersey Clean Energy Program under the direction of the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities (NJBPU). Upon completion and review of the LGEA, the administration and Board of Education recognized the significant energy savings and sustainable initiative opportunities that would benefit the district through an Energy Savings Improvement Program (ESIP). Following a formal Request for Proposal process that was monitored by the NJBPU, the Board of Education, at its January 28, 2016 meeting, approved the selection of Schneider Electric as its partner Energy Services Company (ESCO) to collaboratively design, develop, and implement the district ESIP project.
The district ESIP program is a NJBPU monitored program that enables public entities to complete energy and other capital improvements within the schools on a cost neutral and cash flow positive basis by utilizing energy savings to absorb the cost of the improvements. Preliminary estimates from Schneider Electric for the district energy savings plan (ESP) reflect $1.1 million in annual energy savings and a positive annual cash flow of over $400,000 throughout the term of the ESIP. Additionally, through a Combined Heat & Power (CHP) solution at the middle and intermediate schools campus and a Solar Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) solution throughout the remainder of the district, Schneider Electric projects the opportunity for a near net-zero electricity cost solution for the Pennsauken Public Schools.
The Pennsauken Board of Education and District Administration are extremely excited to have Schneider Electric as our partner ESCO to work together with us to maximize our energy savings and assist our district in being a sustainable leader throughout the state and region.
